Gouffre de Proumeyssac

Discovered in 1907, the cavern has been baptized the 'Crystal Cathedral', and is the largest developed abyss in the Périgord.
A tunnel leads you easily into this immense underground vault whose walls are decorated with a multitude of crystallisations. A show of light and music brings the cave spectacularly to life.
Before the tunnel was accessible by tunnels, visitors descended into the cavern via a nacelle (basket), it is possible descend into the cavern in an aerial basket.

Audi-guide headsets are available in English, Dutch or German.

There is a play and picnic area in shaded wooded surroundings, plus bar and souvenir shop.

The tour lasts 45 minutes and is very busy in peak season.

La Roque St-Christophe

Halfway between Eyzies and Montignac-Laascaux the sheer Roque St Christophe cliff sits high over the Vézère Valley. It is the oldest and largest cave site in Western Europe. It is remarkable, due to the number of dwellings ( there are over 100 rock shelters), its wild beauty and the length of time it has been occupied by man; since prehistoric times.
A tour of Roque St Christophe gives you an insight into how life was, and how the cave dwellings were laid out. There are cave markings on the walls.

Comments:
The tour involves a lot of climbing and sensible shoes are recommended.
There is parking and picnic area, with café below.
